How to run a relaxed quiz for seniors
The best group quiz feels welcoming and social. The questions provide a structure, but the conversation and shared enjoyment are the real activity.
Choose broad, familiar topics
Everyday knowledge, music, food, nature, travel and Australian themes give different people a chance to contribute. Mix easier questions with a few that invite discussion.
Read slowly and repeat
Read each question clearly, then allow plenty of time. Repeat it when useful and accept a sensible alternative answer. Avoid turning speed into the main challenge.
Use teams when helpful
Pairs or small teams can reduce pressure and encourage conversation. A participant can answer aloud, write, or simply enjoy listening.
Keep scoring light
A score sheet can add fun, but it should not dominate the session. Celebrate amusing answers and interesting stories, and do not dwell on mistakes.
Finish while the group is still engaged
You do not have to use every round. Choose two or three themes, invite a favourite question back at the end, and save the rest for another session.
Run a session without starting from scratch
The Ready-to-Print Group Quiz Pack includes ten rounds, a score sheet, answers and facilitator guidance.
