Technology made clearer

How to cancel Amazon Prime without getting lost

You may have joined for a free trial, one delivery or a television program—and then noticed another charge. Cancelling should be simple, but account menus can make the job feel uncertain.

Before beginning: Type Amazon.com.au into your browser or use the official app. Never follow a cancellation link from an unexpected email or text.

Check which account you used

Sign in with the email address or mobile number connected to the membership. If Prime is not visible, you may have used another login. Check previous Amazon receipts before creating another account.

Cancel on the Amazon Australia website

  1. Open Amazon.com.au and sign in.
  2. Open Account & Lists and find Prime Membership.
  3. Choose the option to manage, update or cancel the membership.
  4. Select End Membership or the equivalent cancellation option.
  5. Read each confirmation screen and continue until an end date or cancellation confirmation appears.

Labels sometimes change. Look for wording such as “Manage membership”, “Update, cancel and more” or “End membership”.

Using the Amazon Shopping app

Open the person or account section, choose Your Account, find Prime Membership, then manage and end it. A computer or tablet may be easier if the phone screen feels crowded.

Make sure it worked

If you cannot find it

Go directly to Amazon.com.au and use its Customer Service section. Do not give anyone your password or one-time security code. A trusted relative can sit with you, but you should remain in control of the account.

What about a recent charge?

Cancellation and refunds are separate. Eligibility depends on the membership and whether benefits were used. Ask Amazon Customer Service what applies to the charge visible in your account.

A useful habit for every subscription

Keep a short list of paid subscriptions, renewal dates and payment methods. Reviewing it every few months can prevent forgotten services continuing quietly.
