What paper works best for printable puzzles?

Ordinary A4 copy paper is suitable for most printable activities. A different weight or finish can be useful when pages will be reused, handled frequently or viewed under bright lighting.

Everyday activities: standard copy paper

For single-use puzzles, quizzes and conversation pages, standard 80 gsm A4 copy paper is economical and easy to print. Choose paper that feeds reliably through your printer and produces crisp black text.

Frequently handled pages: heavier paper

Paper around 100–120 gsm can feel sturdier and may be easier to move across a table. Check your printer specifications before using heavier stock. Very thick card is unnecessary for ordinary puzzle pages and may not feed correctly.

Consider glare and contrast

A matte white sheet generally provides strong contrast without the reflections found on glossy paper. In very bright rooms, a soft-white or cream paper may feel more comfortable for some readers, although individual preferences differ.

For reusable pages

A clear display sleeve can protect a printed page and allow use with a suitable wipe-clean marker. Test the marker and cleaning method first, and supervise where appropriate. Laminating may last longer but can create glare under overhead lighting.
